ABOUT

History in Between is a project aiming to create a relationship between contemporary art and history. The initiative’s core lies within the belief that history is a living matter, such which requires constant rethinking and reconsideration, while the way it reaches the public is through the re-living of personal narratives. Initially, History in Between existed as artistic intervention with the permanent exhibitions at the Museum of Sofia. The first exhibition took place in the 2020 and were divided into two parts, where interdisciplinary interventions took place in the rooms of the museum, showcasing contemporary Bulgarian artists working with history.

The long term plans of the project are to establish a database of exhibitions, artists and works, employing historical, political and archival materials. Thus, this methodology of working would reach a wider public and the works of Bulgarian artists would exist in an international context.

History in Between (Project for interventions in the Museum, Sofia) is a collaboration between the Foundation Art - Affairs and Documents, and the Regional History Museum of Sofia; and it is supported by the Calendar of Cultural Events of Sofia City.
